Assistant Procurement Manager

Kettle Produce Limited is one of the major suppliers of fresh and pre-packed vegetables in the UK. We are a dynamic and customer focused business and our Distribution department plays a pivotal role in the successful operation of the business.  

We are currently looking for a Assistant Procurement Manager to contribute and drive our continuous improvement culture. These are exciting and challenging times at Kettle Produce and we need people who will make a difference and add value to our already strong and effective team.  

This opportunity demands enthusiasm and self-motivation and will also require strong influencing skills, as well as the ability to communicate at all levels of the business.

As Assistant Procurement Manager you will assist the Procurement manager in procuring all produce required to satisfy customer orders and expectations, that is not the remit of the KPL Field team, and to successfully manage all aspects of the supply base to this end.

Key responsibilities include;

  • To create effective programmes to fulfil produce requirements.
  • To help with preparing an annual budget for raw materials.
  • To liaise with suppliers on a wide range of topics such as; volumes, specifications, costs, agronomy issues, transport and logistics.
  • Farm assurance and technical specifications.
  • To maintain, grow and develop key relationships with suppliers as part of the Supplier Management System.
  • To grow, develop and maintain relationships with key departments and individuals within KPL.
  • To ensure effective communications with all key members of the following departments; Field, Production, Supply Chain, Technical
  • Work closely with the NPD department to provide information, advice and samples as and when required
  • Work closely with the Finance department with regards to supplier payment terms, price and quantity queries.
  • Gain a full operational understanding of TROPOS, Datamart and the “Multi-Dimensional Cube” reporting systems.
  • To ensure that all purchased items are priced correctly on TROPOS in a timely manner (weekly).
  • To ensure that knowledge is kept up to date with regards to Farm Assurance and Technical requirements for suppliers to KPL, as well as the agricultural industry, both nationally and internationally.
  • Take personal responsibility for being an active team member and lead by example in terms of behaviour and professionalism.
  • Whilst travelling always be on the lookout for new products, systems, equipment etc.
  • To develop a range of contacts allowing the export of any surplus product.
