Facilities
The principle activity at the Balmalcolm site is the processing and packing of a range of prepared and washed vegetables. The fully automated preparation and packing equipment is constantly upgraded to ensure that the final product quality consistently achieves the best in class.
All the field based harvesting and packing activities for brassicas and salads are passed through the vacuum and hydro vacuum coolers before being consolidated and loaded through the despatch chill. The close proximity of many of the field operations to Balmalcolm with its highly efficient chilling and cold chain maintenance ensure that the customer receives product with maximum freshness and taste.
Orkie site has recently undergone a complete refurbishment after a fire in 2010 caused complete devastation of the washing and packing facility. The “new” Orkie now boasts state of the art Carrot, Parsnip and Swede washing, grading and packing lines, housed in over 18,000m2 of purpose built facilities. These facilities along with the people who manage and run them, ensure that Kettle Produce will remain at the forefront of root vegetable processing for many years to come.
